What was your background before entering your chiropractic education? I was an athletic training/sports medicine major at Whittier college in Whittier, CA. I served as a student athletic trainer for the Poets for 4 years, most notably with the then top five nationally ranked men’s lacrosse team.
While at Palmer West, what sort of things were you involved in? Sports Council as Lead Event Coordinator and Co-President
What role did you play in the Palmer West Sports Council and how did it influence your career? I was very active in all aspects of Sports Council. To me, SC was the one ting PCCW offered that gave the most realistically accurate portrayal of what being a clinician would be like. To have to make a split second judgment about a patients health status using nothing more than your brain and a few supplies in your medical bag…..that’s powerful!
What year did you graduate from Palmer West? Nov 2007
What did you do immediately after graduation? Went to Italy for 3 weeks with my beautiful wife Katie. (Ironically, we ran into Dr. De Wet’s relatives on a bus ride down the mountain in Cortina ….small world! Shows you the far reaches chiropractic has in the world!)
Did you pursue any extra certifications (CCSP, DASBSP, ICCSD, etc)? I took the CCSP in April of 2008. As an ATC (Certified Athletic Trainer) you can sit for the test without sitting through the class. The ACBSP waives the classroom portion for ATC’s because the curriculums are virtually identical.
WHERE ARE YOU NOW? I am in Santa Clara, CA where I owe and operate SportPlus, an athletic training & chiropractic corporation.
Finally, if you had one tip for students right now, what would it be? 1) Show Up!!!!
2) Study for things you SHOULD know as a “DOCTOR”, not just what you are expected to know!
